Public meeting Wednesday to discuss Abbeville, Vermilion homicides
Abbeville Councilman Wayne Landry said he continues to hear from constituents who have lost family members in homicide cases.
“Many of the cases have affected people from my district,” said Landry, who represents Abbeville’s District D.
The councilman wants to show support, not only to those he represents, but to all affected by open homicide cases in Vermilion Parish. Landry is inviting all to attend a town hall meeting today at the Abbeville library. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
“Everyone’s invited to attend this meeting concerning the unsolved murders in Abbeville and surrounding areas,” Landry said. “We just want to show support to those who have been affected.”
Landry has invited parish and city law enforcement officials.
“There are a lot of unanswered questions people have,” Landry said. “Those questions may not be answered tonight, but if citizens can ask law enforcement those questions, maybe they can feel a little better.”
City and parish officials will be in attendance. Local leaders from the religious community are also expected to attend, as are representatives with the NAACP and Rainbow PUSH Coalition.
“We really want as many family and friends of victims as possible,” Landry said of the most important invitees.
Landry will serve as the event’s moderator.
“We are not going to allow any arguing,” Landry said. “It is just going to be discussion.”
As well as support.
“We just want to show the family and friends that someone cares,” Landry said. “Getting everyone together in one place can hopefully do that.”
