Governor appoints Kaplan Chief to LEEMI board
KAPLAN — Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams was recently appointed to the board of directors for the Law Enforcement Executive Management Institute (LEEMI), a branch of the governor’s office.
“I received the call last week about the appointment from the governor,” saidAdams.
“I was shocked and honored and accepted the appointment.
The Institute was formed in 2003 by legislature under state law and became a branch of the Governor’s office. The Institute is managed by a board of five members.
All newly elected and appointed Chiefs of Police in the State of Louisiana have to attend the institute within their first year of serving as Chief of Police.
Police Chiefs also have to complete 24 hours of continuing education yearly to maintain their status and supplemental pay. All training must be approved by the board of directors prior to assure hours will be counted as continued education.
An advocate on training when it comes to his police officers, Adams stated, “A safe city, is a city that will grow and prosper and an unsafe city will fail.To have a safe city, officers need to be well trained and have experience under their belt which is very costly. But during this day and age, public safety is at its highest when it comes to concerns to all citizens.
“Times are changing and we have to stay ahead of the game. Cost is not an issue when it comes to public safety, saving lives, protecting property and residents having a peace of mind. My job is to ensure all of the above take place. There is never time to let your guard down. When it comes to the job, we have to always look for ways to fight crime so the criminals can be apprehended and justice can be served. The victim’s safety is always uppermost in my mind.
“When someone commits a crime in my jurisdiction, I take it personal because we are a close knit community. I will spend endless hours of my time to make sure justice is done.
