Gueydan Duck Festival Junior Grand Marshals announced
GUEYDAN -The Gueydan Duck Festival will hold its annual Wine and Cheese Social Saturday night, August 2 at the Gueydan Civic Center to honor dignitaries, sponsors and supporters.
Chosen as the Festival’s Junior Grand Marshals are Sami David and Mason Reed. This young lady and young man will have the honor to lead the Gueydan Duck Festival’s Grand Parade.
Sami David is the seventeen-year-old daughter of Johnny and Julia David. She has two older sisters, Katie David and Valerie Guree and is the granddaughter of Laura Zaunbrecher and the late Fred Zaunbrecher. She is also the granddaughter of the late Elray and Hazel David.
Sami is a senior at Gueydan High School. She is currently an active member of the Beta Club, Literary Club, Drama Club, French Club, and track team, where she is currently the district champion in discus. Sami has been on the GHS cheerleading squad for the past three years, and is presently captain of the squad. She has attended District Literary Rally at LSUE for the past three years and went on to attend State Rally at LSU in Baton Rouge. She has been on honor roll for the past three years . She has been a class officer for the past three years and has attended Parish Government Day. Last summer she was chosen to represent Gueydan High and attend the Hugh O’Brian Leadership Conference in Baton Rouge.
This past summer she was chosen to represent Gueydan High School at the American Legion Auxiliary Louisiana Girl State. She was also chosen as a representative at Trailblazer Camp. After High School she plans to attend University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in English. Sami would like to thank the Gueydan Duck Festival Association for the honor of being chosen as Junior Grand Marshal. She welcomes everyone to visit the fair grounds and enjoy the live music and great food.
Mason is the 17-year-old nephew of Christopher and Brandi Reed and the son of Tichoah Watson and Daniel Reed. He is a senior at Gueydan High School. He is active in FFA and served as the 2013-14 2nd Vice-President and is the 2014-15 Vice-President. He has attended FFA Conventions and FFA Camp every summer since his freshman year. Over the years, Mason has earned his Green hand, Chapter and State FFA Degrees, maintained honor roll for three years, was named Outstanding Student of the Year in Agriscience III, 2013-14. He attended Literary Rally in English I as a freshman, Agriscience II as a sophomore and Agriscience III as a junior, placing first in both Ag II and Ag III.
Mason has been a member of Beta Club for the past 3 years, holds a 3.98 GPA. He attended Louisiana Boys’ State in Natchitoches, Louisiana this summer. He is a member of the St. Peters Catholic Church and was confirmed in 2013.
During his free time, Mason enjoys spending time with his family and friends, reading books and watching movies. He also enjoys playing his guitar and has new found hobby of woodworking. His future plans are to attend McNeese State University, to pursue a degree in the medical field.
