NV’s Thompson only player named to first team Class 3A All-State Team

The Louisiana Sportswriters Association’s Class 3A All-State team came out earlier this week, and the only person from Vermilion Parish to make the first team was North Vermilion’s Ryan Thompson.
Thompson was selected to the team as the second basemen.
“I was really surprised when I found out that I was the only one on the first team,” Thompson said. “Don’t get me wrong I was super excited, but I was also shocked.
“I didn’t think I had that good of a season. I played well, but I thought the slump I had at the beginning of the season took me out of the running.”
Not only was Thompson excited about his selection to the All-State team, but his parents were excited as well.
“I honestly think my parents were more excited than I was,” Thompson said. “They were also really proud of me.”
Thompson was a sophomore this past season for the Patriots, and it is his love for the game that helped him receive this honor.
“I love the game of baseball,” Thompson said. “I think that’s the reason I was able to do so well. My love for the game forces me to practice all the time. I am constantly trying to get better and better each and every week.”
To go along with playing baseball, Thompson is also a member of the Patriots football team.
Although, if he did have to choose between baseball and football, it would be a simple answer for Thompson, baseball.
“If I had to choose I would pick baseball, hands down,” Thompson said. “I mean I love football and I love
playing football, but baseball is my true love.
“There is just something, I can’t explain, that is just awesome about playing baseball.”
Football is one way that Thompson stays in shape for the baseball season.
“Football helps me stay in shape,” Thompson said. “Both mentally and physically. I get to stay in that game time mind set, and that helps me come baseball season.”
Thompson is hoping that one day he can take this love of baseball and take it further than just high school.
“I am wanting to go to college,” Thompson said. “I also want to be able to play baseball in college. That is one of my dreams.”
If playing baseball in college is one of his biggest dreams, then he is the only one standing in his way.
Though that won’t be a problem.
Thompson has the drive and determination to reach his goals.
So until then Thompson has to wait through football season and just do his best to get better and better.
