VC’s spring practice wraps up Friday night

The Vermilion Catholic football team will have a bulls eye on their back all season long by virtue of them being the defending District IV State Champions.
Their title defense begins as early as last week.
Last week the Eagles began their spring football practice, and that culminates with a scrimmage game against Opelousas Catholic Friday night at 6 p.m.
Next years VC team will look a little bit different, but head coach Russell Kuhns is excited about what he has seen so far.
“Our defense is coming along,” Kuhns said. “Our offense is starting to gel. I like what I have seen so far. The important thing is to make sure that we get better and better, everyday.”
One thing that coach Kuhns isn’t worried about is the pressure of trying to repeat as state champions.
“It is a different year,” Kuhns said. “We have a very different team. I don’t feel like there is a whole lot of pressure to repeat, but as long as we go out there and do what we know how to do, we will be alright in the long run.
“It is always different when you have to change quarterbacks. We will have to evaluate and see where everyone is, and maybe the pressure will set in then, but now I don’t feel any.”
The VC spring practice will come to an end Friday night, as they play host to Opelousas Catholic. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
