Kaplan’s Herpin named 6-3A Coach of the Year

The 2014 district 6-3A All-District team has been announced, and Kaplan and North Vermilion make up over half of the first team.
The Lady Pirates had a total of 10 members of their softball team make the 6-3A All-District team.
Five of them were part of the first team, three were members of the second team and Kaplan had two honorable mentions.
On top of the 10 members that were on the All-District team, the Lady Pirates head coach Shay Herpin was named the district Coach of the Year.
Herpin led his Lady Pirates team to a 22-5 overall record and the number two overall seed heading into the state championship playoff tournament.
The Lady Pirates made it as far as the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
The North Vermilion Lady Patriots were the ones that ousted the Lady Pirates from the playoffs, and made it to the semi-finals of the Fastpitch 56 State softball tournament.
The Lady Patriots play throughout the year earned them 12 spots on the All-District team.
Six of those players were named to the first team, four were named to the second team and two were honorable mentions.
Erath made it to the first round of the playoffs and had a total of seven players on the 6-3A All-District team, four on the second team, and three were honorable mentions.
The Abbeville Lady Wildcats also had seven total members of their team to make the All-District team.
Three players made the second team, and four were honorable mentions.
Along with the All-District team for their play on the field, the All-Academic team was also announced.
To make the All-Academic team, the players had to perform in the class room as well as perform on the field.
To qualify, the athletes had to have at least a 3.0 grade point average.
Angelle Domingue of Abbeville, Miranda Martin and Brooke Dupuy were all a member of the 6-3A All-Academic team.
