Counterfeit bills surfacing in Kaplan
Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams reports the police department has been receiving numerous calls in the last two weeks due to complaints of counterfeit money
“We are asking cashiers of all businesses to double check money they receive from customers,” said Adams. “Most of the bills are twenty dollar bills.”
Chief Adams recommends that all bills accepted by a cashier should be checked with a money pen prior to completing the sale to the customer.
Once the cashier checks the bill and determines the bill is counterfeit, Chief Adams is asking that you call the police department to make a report and if at all possible give a good description of the person you received the counterfeit money from to the dispatcher.
Adams states his detectives are following up on several leads on the counterfeit money crime. He also advised the crime is a federal offense and federal agents are working closely with us.
