VC prepares to make run at state title
The Vermilion Catholic Eagles track team is gearing up to make a run at the Class 1A state title.
The meet will begin with the field events at 1:30 p.m. at the Bernie Moore Stadium at LSU in Baton Rouge.
The Eagles have a genuine shot at winning the team state title.
VC qualified 11 different athletes in nine different events.
So with good fortune and hard work the Eagles have a chance to bring home the state title, much like they did with the parish and the regional titles.
Kyle Zenon gets his run at three different state titles, starting in the javelin event.
Andre Giroouard will join Zenon in event 10, the first event the Eagles have an athlete competing.
Event 15 is the shot put competition, and Kyle Zenon and Trey Ryder are entered in this event with the eighth and fifth best throw, respectively, in their regional meet.
The final field event for the Eagles is event 23 the discus throw. Zenon and Paul Veazey are competing for VC.
The running events will begin at 5 p.m., and the first event the Eagles are in is event 31.
Event 31 is the boys 4x200 meter relay race.
This marks the first of the three relay events and the Eagles will have a team in all three relay races.
In the 4x200 relay race Mike Campbell, Connor Menard, David Trappey and Emile Trahan will run for the Eagles.
The Eagles have to wait eight more events before the next VC athletes take to the track.
Nate Silar and Peyton Trahan will be participating in the 110-meter hurdles race.
They will also both compete in the 300 meter hurdles event, but that is later on in the evening.
The 300-meter hurdles event is event 59 of the evening.
Will Faulk qualified in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:09.83.
The 800 meter race is event 47 on the evening.
The second relay race of the day is the 4x100 meter relay.
The same team of Campbell, Menard, Trappey and Trahan are also running the 4x200 meter relay race.
The 4x100 relay race is event 51.
The Eagles also have to stick around to the very end of the meet as they have a team qualified for the 4x400 meter relay race.
Event 68 is the 4x400 relay and the team of Campbell, Menard, Trappey and Will Faulk will run for the Eagles.
The Eagles have a chance of taking home the team state title due to the fact they have so many competitors.
Again, the field events will begin at 1:30 p.m., and the track events will begin at 5 p.m.
