Lady Wildcats claim Regional Title

The last leg before the State Track meet for many of the track athletes in Vermilion Parish, was the Regional Track meet held at Abbeville High, Wednesday night.
While there were a lot of participants from Vermilion parish schools that qualified for the state meet, the Abbeville Lady Wildcats were the winner of the Regional meet with 72.5 points.
“The win is good, and it is always nice to win a big meet like this,” Abbeville girls track coach Erik Lege said. “Now we can focus on the state meet, and do everything we can to bring some championships home.”
The Lady Wildcats qualified for state in eight different events.
Katina Perry was named Oustanding Performer, and qualified for the state meet in the 100-, 300-meter hurdles, 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay races.
Paige Cutright qualified for the state meet in the high jump, 300-meter hurdles and 4x400 meter relay.
Arrayia Starlard qualified in the 800 meter, 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays.
Nadasha Valliere qualified for the state meet in the discus throw.
Kaysie Hardy won the javelin event, and qualified for the state meet.
The Erath track teams were able to send a participant to state in the girls 100 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 4x100 meter relay, pole vault, triple jump, and javelin competitions.
The Erath boys team qualified a member of their team to the state meet in the 100 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 4x100 meter relay and pole vault competitions.
The Kaplan Lady Pirates qualified for the state meet in the girls long jump, Kendra Gums, and shot put events, Yasmin Cobb.
The Pirates were able to qualify in the 3200 meter race, triple jump and discus throw events.
The North Vermilion Lady Patriots only qualified for two events at the state meet.
Claire Meyers in the javelin, and the 4x400 meter relay team.
The Patriots also only had two qualify for the state meet.
Kaleb Derouen in the pole vault, and Dominic Governale in the javelin.
The State meet will start on Saturday, May 10.
