Lady Panthers to make the trip to Sulphur
The Delcambre Lady Panthers, late Saturday night, joined the ranks of the Fast pitch 56 softball teams in the state, with a 7-2 victory over Winnfield.
“We are really excited to making the trip to Sulphur,” Lady Panthers head coach Chad Hayes said. “It has been four years since we have been able to make the trip over there, and the girls are really excited.
“They have worked their butts off all season long, and it’s good to see that their hard work is paying off.”
Taylor Trahan took the mound for the second straight playoff game, and despite giving up two runs in the bottom of the first inning, she was able to settle down and get the victory for the Lady Panthers.
Trahan pitched all seven innings, and in her time on the mound she only allowed two runs, neither of which were earned, on only three hits.
She also managed to strike out six Winnfield batters.
Trahan helped herself out at the plate by leading the Lady Panthers in both hits and RBIs.
Trahan was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Next in line at the plate were Hollie DeRanger and Emily Romero.
Both DeRanger and Romero went 2-for-4 from the plate, and Romero had an RBI.
“I’m just glad to see that our bats are starting to heat up,” Hayes said. “Our defense has been solid all year long, and our pitching led by Taylor Trahan has been solid all year long. It was just our hitting that wasn’t solid for us, and now it seems like the girls are starting to peak at the plate, and this is a perfect time for that to happen.”
The Lady Panthers are now set to travel to Sulphur to play in the quarterfinals against Calvary Baptist Academy of Shreveport on Friday.
They will play on field 15, and the game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
“I don’t know much about them (Calvary),” Hayes said. “What I do know is, that if we play the way I know we can, we have a real good shot at winning.”
