Vermilion Parish baseball teams learn playoff fate

The baseball regular season in Vermilion Parish is over.
Now we can get down to the most important part of the baseball season, the playoffs.
The North Vermilion Patriots, Erath Bobcats and Vermilion Catholic Eagles are locks to make the playoffs, it is just a matter of where they will be ranked, when the brackets come out this afternoon.
The Patriots are currently ranked fourth in the unofficial power rankings.
They are projected to play the 28th seeded Jena in the first round of the playoffs.
They could also potentially face 30th ranked Caldwell, 31st Vidallia or district rival 32nd Kaplan.
The Bobcats are currently ranked 12th in the unofficial power rankings, and they are projected to play the 20th seeded Jennings.
They could potentially face 21st Thomas Jefferson or 22nd Loaranger, depending on the final power rankings.
The Eagles are currently ranked fifth in Class 1A, and could possibly square off against district rival 28th Highland Baptist in the first round playoffs.
Other potential opponents include 29th St. Martins, 30th False River or 31st Houma Christian.
Those are the teams that are locks for the playoffs, but in Vermilion Parish there are a couple of teams that are on the bubble.
The Kaplan Pirates and the Delcambre Panthers are currently ranked 32nd and 30th respectively.
Delcambre’s chances of making the playoffs was helped by it’s game against North Vermilion last night.
If they make it as the 30th seed they will travel and potentially face no. 2 Kinder, no. 3 Riverside or no. 4 Sterlington.
The Pirates are holding on to the last spot in Class 3A by three tenths of a point.
If they are able to hold on they will face either no. 1 Evangel, no. 2 John Curtis or no. 3 E.D. White.
The official power rankings and brackets will be announced later this afternoon.
