Lady Patriots rematch with Parkview Baptist
The North Vermilion Lady Patriots are preparing for a second round match-up against a team they have already beaten once this season, Parkview Baptist.
“I expect a tight ball game,” Lady Patriots head coach Richard Prejean said. “They are a very good, really young squad. We beat them earlier this year. The final score was 10-8 in 11 innings. I fully expect that kind of ball game.”
The game is scheduled for this afternoon at 4 p.m. at North Vermilion’s field.
Heading into the first round game against Thomas Jefferson last week, Prejean was worried about the rust on his players, this week is not a concern of his at all.
“I’m not worried about the rust,” Prejean said. “We had a lot of good practices this week, and we rested up and nursed ourselves back to health. This week we focused on mentally preparing ourselves for the game, and we got back to the basics. It was a good week of practice.”
Hannah Vidallier will be taking the mound for the Lady Patriots this afternoon.
Vidallier is sporting a 13-5 record with a 1.48 earned run average, and 49 strikeouts on the year.
Vidallier is also tied for the lead in batting average with .481.
She is tied with Elise Vincent for the team lead in batting average.
Vidallier also leads the team in RBIs with 25, third baseman Miranda Martin is right behind her with 23.
Coach Prejean has done a good job of keeping his team focused on the present and not looking forward to the possible match-up with Kaplan in the quarterfinals.
“It was brought up once, about a week ago,” Prejean said. “After that it hasn’t been mentioned since. We know that once you are in the playoffs you can’t look forward. It’s all about who you are playing right now”
The game against Parkview Baptist is set to begin at 4 p.m. at North Vermilion.
