Panthers win on Senior Night
It was senior night for the Delcambre Panthers baseball team on Tuesday night, and the seniors got to go out with a 30-1 victory over district rival Jeanerette.
According to coach Johnny Trangmar, everyone on the team got a chance to bat in the blowout of the Tigers.
This was a big win for the Delcambre Panthers baseball team.
They are currently ranked 29th in the most recent power rankings, and at this point with only a week left in the season, they need all the wins they can get.
“The pressure is still on our back,” Trangmar said. “We have to face a good Opelousas Catholic team. They pitch well and they hit the ball very hard. Tonight was nice because everyone got to play, but we still have work to do. We have OC, and then we have North Vermilion on Monday. So our work is cut out for us.”
The seniors on the team are Alex Barres, Lane Campbell, Hunter Dooley, Jordy Rousso and Dustin Waguespack.
Coach Trangmar is going to miss coaching these players, but he is glad they got to win their final home game.
“They are a great group of guys,” Trangmar said. “They try to do everything that you ask of them, which for a young man is hard sometimes, but they give you everything that they have. I am going to miss them because they are a great bunch of kids.”
With this win on Tuesday night the Panthers record is now standing at 9-12 overall and 4-5 in district play.
They will be back on the diamond tonight as they travel to Opelousas to play Opelousas Catholic, and then on Monday they will play their final regular season game against the North Vermilion Patriots at North Vermilion’s field.
