Eagles come up short against Live Oak

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles baseball team played a rare Monday night game, and what made it even more rare was the Eagles go to play at the number 1 University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin Cajuns M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
Despite playing on a collegiate field, the Eagles weren’t able to get past Live Oak, and lost by the final score of 8-1.
“We made more errors than they did,” Eagles head coach Steven Adams said. “I fell like they capitalized almost every single time we made a mistake. Other than the mistakes, I feel we were right there with them.”
The Eagles did keep it close for most of the game.
Live Oak took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
It was the top of the fifth inning that was the backbreaker for the Eagles.
Live Oak managed to score six runs in the top of the fifth.
Tyler Derouen would score the only run for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth inning.
“It was just those two big innings that got to us,” Adams said. “If we could have gotten out of those innings a little sooner this would have been a different game, but give it up to them. They (Live Oak) had a really good pitcher on the mound.”
Drake Broussard was a bright spot for the Eagles at the plate.
Broussard went 2-for-3 from the plate with two singles. His two hits accounted for two of the three VC hits on the night.
Connor Menard was 1-for-3 with a double early in the game.
The Eagles record now sits at 18-11 overall and 7-2 in district play.
The Eagles will be back on the field on Thursday when they travel to play Hanson.
The Hanson game begins a stretch of four games in five days for the Eagles.
They will play Hanson on Thursday, Gueydan on Friday, AES on Saturday and then finish their season at home against Jena on Monday night.
