Patriots beat Pios handily
The North Vermilion Patriots continue to roll on the diamond.
This time they squared off against district rival Notre Dame for the second time in three days on Wednesday night.
The first time these two teams played the Pios forced the Patriots to come from behind and win in their last at bat.
This time the Patriots won easily by the final score of 9-1.
“It took us the first two or three innings to finally get things going,” North Vermilion Head Coach Jeremy Trahan said. “We had a big inning off of a couple of errors by them (Notre Dame), and we didn’t just rely on that inning. We kept at them and put them away. I think that is what I’m most proud of is that they didn’t rest and they scored some insurance runs to put them away.”
Ryan Meaux led the way for the Patriots on the mound.
Meaux won his seventh game of the year making his record a perfect 7-0 on the season.
In the 5 2/3 innings Meaux pitched he only allowed four hits and one run.
“Ryan pitched well for us today,” Trahan said. “That is one of the reasons we have been so successful this season. We have had great pitching and good defense all season long.
“The thing we were lacking was hitting, and that is finally starting to come around. We just have to keep working, and make sure that we don’t rest on all the good work we have done this far because there is still a lot of work to be done.”
Seth Patin would come in and finish the last inning and a third for the Patriots, and in his time on the mound Patin would only give up one hit.
Chance Carriere led the way for the Patriots at the plate.
Carriere was 3-for-3 with three singles and three runs scored. He also had an RBI.
Cole Latolais in his one at-bat had a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 9-1.
Ryan Meaux and Ryan Thompson both went 2-for-3 with a single and a double.
The two Ryan’s also scored two runs, and Meaux had an RBI.
With this win over Notre Dame the Patriots are now the proud owners of a 23-2 overall record. They also have a perfect 6-0 district record.
The Patriots will be back in action on Tuesday when they square off against the Erath Bobcats for the District 6-3A title.
Both teams entering the two game series this week are sporting a perfect 6-0 record in district play.
“We need to be playing well heading into next week,” Trahan said. “We are going to be playing a good Erath team, and we don’t want to split the title this year.”
First game is scheduled for Tuesday, at 4 p.m. at North Vermilion’s field.
