VC boys, Abbeville girls take home parish title

All of the Parish Track Meet records are safe for at least one more year.
None of the parish records were broken in the 2014 running of the Parish track meet.
That doesn’t mean there wasn’t some talented athletes giving everything they have.
Winning the track meet on the girls side was the Abbeville Lady Wildcats.
“It is always nice to be the Parish Champs,” Abbeville girls head track coach Erik Lege said. “It is one of our goals, to win the Parish meet, and we did that. So now we can focus on the district meet in a week.”
This marks the fifth win in the last seven meets for the Lady Wildcats.
The Lady Wildcats won the meet with 155 points, 29 points more than the North Vermilion Lady Patriots.
The Lady Wildcats were led by the Most Outstanding Performer, Paige Cutright, who scored 26 points, by winning the high jump competition and placing second in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles events.
Her teammates Katina Perry scored 21.5 points, and Charlotte Eaton scored 15.5 to help secure the Parish Championship for the Lady Eagles.
On the boys side, for the first time all year long the Vermilion Catholic Eagles are the 2014 Parish Champions.
They scored a total of 117 points, which was 17 points more than the Erath Bobcats that finished second.
“It has been a long time coming,” VC boys track coach George Veazey said. “I’m very proud of this team. We had a lot of kids set some personal best, and that really helped us out.
“I think this win gives us the confidence to go out and perform next week at the district meet. We have all of the tools and athletes we just haven’t been able to put it all together until tonight.”
The Eagles were led by Kyle Zenon, who for the seventh straight meet was named Outstanding Field Performer, with 30 points, and wins in the discus, shot put and javelin competition.
The Eagles also racked up 30 points by winning the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relay events.
Caitlin Domingues of Erath scored 25 points and was named Outstanding Track performer, and Kendra Gums of Kaplan with 20 points was the Outstanding Field performer.
The Outstanding Track performer for the boys was Erath’s Corey Cole who scored 31 points, and the Outstanding Overall performer was Devante Davis of Kaplan with 34 points.
