Parish Track Meet in North Vermilion Wednesday

The 2014 Parish Relays get underway this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the North Vermilion Track.
This is the last opportunity that all of the parish teams across Vermilion Parish will have to prepare for the District meet.
Even though the Parish meet isn’t as important to the teams as the District meet is, next week, they are taking this meet very seriously.
“We always take the Parish meet very seriously,” Abbeville girls head track coach Erik Lege said. “It gives us a chance to see just exactly where we are as a team.”
The Lady Wildcats aren’t the only team in the parish taking this track meet very serious.
The Erath Lady Bobcats are also putting a lot of focus on this track meet.
“The parish track meet helps me out a lot,” Erath girls head track coach Jonathan Bouillion said. “This is basically my last dress rehearsal. This meet is going to go quickly because there is only seven teams in the meet, which means less recovery time between the events.
“Our girls understand this, and it’s pretty much what we have been doing all season long.”
So for the Lady Bobcats and most of the teams across the parish, this meet is important for parish pride, but everyone is gearing up for next week.
“No matter how we do tonight we know there will be a next week,” Bouillion said. “Next week though, we are guaranteed to move on. That’s why the parish meet is important, is because it gives us that one last chance to make sure everyone is where they need to be.”
Although, to go along with trying to get ready for the district meet next weekend, the teams are also preparing for their only chance of the season to break the parish records.
It is a matter of pride for all the participants, and it is a great show for all of the fans.
This is the chance the teams have to prepare themselves for the district meet, which means that everyone is going to be giving it everything they have.
So, if you are in need of some great track action tonight, head out to North Vermilion and take part in the 2014 Parish Relays.
