Softball regular season comes to a close

There are three distinct parts of any baseball or softball season.
There is the tournament portion of the schedule, the district schedule and the playoffs.
According to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association the last day of the softball season is tomorrow.
Which means that starting Thursday only one part of the regular season remains, the playoffs.
As it stands, it looks as though six of the seven softball teams are going to make the playoffs, according to the unofficial power rankings.
The Abbeville Lady Wildcats wrapped their regular season up last Thursday with a 17-0 win over West St. Mary.
According to the power rankings, the Lady Wildcats are currently sitting in the 30th spot. Their playoff fate is still up in the air, but despite the outcome the Lady Wildcats had a much improved season thanks to the tutelage of coach Ivy Landry.
The Delcambre Lady Panthers are locks to make the playoffs.
With a 18-7 record the Lady Panthers find themselves ranked 13th and have a couple of games left to improve that ranking.
They played Catholic High of N.I. last night, and square off against South Cameron tonight.
The Erath Lady Bobcats may have hit a rough patch towards the end of the season, but they finished strong by winning four of their last five games.
The Lady Bobcats record stands at 16-15, and is good enough to land them in the 26th spot in the power rankings. Which should be good enough to keep them in the playoffs.
The Kaplan Lady Pirates are riding high by winning their last eight games, and are firmly secured into the playoff hunt by winning the district 6-3A title and being ranked number two in the power rankings.
The North Vermilion Lady Patriots have also firmly secured their spot in the playoffs by being ranked eighth in the power rankings.
They have one more game remaining on the schedule, against Morgan City tomorrow, to possibly improve their final rankings.
The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles’ regular season is done, and they are looking forward to the playoffs.
The Lady Eagles are ranked 22nd in the power rankings, and are now just waiting for the final power rankings to come out, to see who they are going to be playing in the first round of the playoffs.
As it stands six of the seven softball teams in Vermilion Parish are going to make the playoffs.
Now as a disclaimer, there is a lot that could happen between now and when the playoff brackets come out.
Regardless of the final standings it has been an outstanding season, and there will be a lot of playoff action around the parish.
