Eagles win third straight district game
The Vermilion Catholic Eagles were able to move their record up to 15-8 overall and 4-1 in district play, on Saturday afternoon with a 5-4 victory over Hanson.
Things started out great for the Eagles.
They were able to get an early three run lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Tyler Derouen was cruising on the mound for the Eagles.
He had a small hiccup in the top of the fourth when he gave up a run, but other than that everything was going great.
That is until the top of the seventh inning.
In the top of the seventh, Derouen gave up four runs, and the Eagles lost their lead and trailed 4-3.
Lucky for Derouen and the rest of the Eagles team, the VC bats came alive in the bottom of the seventh inning to score two runs and win the game 5-3.
Derouen did manage to get the victory, and pitched a complete game. He allowed four runs, none of which were earned, on five hits and struck out three batters.
Drake Broussard led the way at the plate for the Eagles.
Broussard was 2-for-3 with two singles.
He also scored two runs and drove in a run.
