Lady Wildcats beat Erath in last at bat
The Abbeville Lady Wildcats entered the game against the Erath Lady Bobcats on Wednesday desperately needing a win.
Thanks in large part to some timely two out hitting in the bottom of the seventh the Lady Wildcats were able to get just that with a 10-9 victory over Erath.
“This was a big win for us,” Lady Wildcats Head Coach Ivy Landry said. “It was one of those games where we got a lead early and then lost it, and that’s when I was real proud of out girls.
“In the past when we would lose a lead like that we would shut down, but we didn’t. We fought back and showed a lot of heart, and I’m really proud of that.”
The Lady Wildcats had a lead of 8-3 heading into the top of the sixth inning.
That’s when the Erath bats would come alive.
The Lady Bobcats managed to plate four runs in the top of the sixth to close the gap to 8-7.
After the Lady Wildcats failed to score in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Bobcats kept the momentum rolling by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 9-8 lead.
This is normally where the Lady Wildcats would have folded, except for this game.
After a single by freshmen Holli Mire and a double by freshmen Alexis Broussard, the Lady Wildcats collected two straight outs.
So with only one out left in the game Alexa Lege hit a ground ball to third base, and Mire was able to slide under the tag of the catcher to tie the game at 9-9.
Then the very next batter, Angelle Domingue, with two outs and two runners on, hits a single up the middle to score Broussard for the game winning run.
“It was good to see our freshmen step up and get on like they did in the last inning,” Land;;ry said. “It was made even better that a couple of our seniors drove them in. This was just a good win for us all the way around.”
Angelle Dominuge started the game for the Lady Wildcats and in five innings only gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits. She also struck out four Lady Bobcats.
Domingue would also go 2-for-4 with a single, a double and the game winning RBI.
Alexa Lege was 4-for-5 with two singles, a double and a home run.
Abbevilles record now stands at 9-5 overall and 2-5 in district play.
They played Notre Dame last night in Crowley.
Leading the way for Lady Bobcats was Hailey Campbell and Alexis Harrington.
Campbell went 3-for-5 with two singles and a double.
Harrington was 3-for-4 with three singles.
The Lady Bobcats took their 12-13 overall record, and 2-5 district record and went up against Kaplan in Kaplan last night.
