VC’s Frith, Brailey make Class 1A All-State Team

Now that the basketball seasons are officially over, and all of the All-Star games are in the process of being played, the 2013-2014 All-State teams are slowly but surely starting to come out.

This year the Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles, whose season ended with a 62-59 loss to Arcadia in the quarterfinals, had two players make the All-State team.

Senior Katie Frith was named as a member of the second team.

Frith averaged 18.5 points on the season, and scored a season high 25 in the quarterfinal game against Arcadia.

Junior Ashailee Brailey was an honorable mention.

Both Frith and Brailey were members of the first team All-State team last season.

“It is exciting anytime you can have one of your players get any kind of post season accolades,” Vermilion Catholic Head Coach Kim Guidry said. “Both of these girls deserve everything that they are awarded. They are hard working players, and it makes the second year in a row that they were able to be apart of the All-State team.”

District 7-1A is well represented in the All-State team.

Along with Brailey and Frith, Meo Knight and Randi Brown of Central Catholic were named to the first team All-State team.

To go along with making the first team, Knight was named the Class 1A All-State MVP, and her coach Jamarr Garrett won Coach of the Year.

“It is a testament to how good our district is,” Guidry said. “It’s always nice to have someone from your district to win an award like that, but Meo is such an incredible athlete. She deserves an award like this because she is a great athlete, and a
wonderful kid as well.”
