Two local teams crack top ten in LBCA polls

The Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association has come out with their most recent poll, and two Vermilion Parish teams are ranked inside the top 10 in their respective classes.

The LBCA is made up of coaches from all over the state of Louisiana.

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles who are sporting a record of 9-5 on the season are ranked number seven in Class 1A.

The Eagles were able to move up one spot from the preseason polls where they were ranked number eight.

“It is always good to move up,” Vermilion Catholic Head Coach Steven Adams said. “It’s nice for the kids to see the success they are having. It is showing the kids that people in the state know who we are. At the end of the day, these things don’t matter too much. There is still a lot of regular season left, and then the playoffs. That’s when we see the true rankings.

The North Vermilion Patriots are the other team from Vermilion Parish to be ranked inside the top 10 of the LBCA poll.

The Patriots are ranked sixth in the most recent poll, and this is a jump of four positions for the Patriots.

They were ranked number 10 to begin the season.

The Patriots are also on a bit of a hot streak.

They started the season with an eight game winning streak, and after one loss are now on a two game winning streak on their way to a 10-1 record.

“I think it’s good to be ranked,” North Vermilion Head Coach Jeremy Trahan said. “You can’t put too much into it though. You don’t how teams compare until they play, but it’s good for our team. It means that people are starting to notice what we are
doing here.”

The Erath Bobcats baseball team, while not being named inside the top 10 are currently also receiving votes in the latest polls.

The Bobcats have a record of 4-7 on the season.
