Deuce takes it to the bank

Ever been duck or goose hunting with a bird dog? Hunters say, There is nothing quite like being in a duck blind on a winter day, shooting a duck, and have your dog swim out in the near freezing water to collect your prize, and swim back with the duck in his mouth. This is something Dave Fullerton of Gueydan is use to seeing with his dog Deuce.
The Cajun Hunting Retriever Club recently held it’s annual Spring American Kennel Club sanction Hunt in Estherwood. Fullerton’s Labrador retriever, Deuce and 166 other dogs were tested against the Hunt Standard on Saturday, March 8 and 163 dogs were tested on Sunday, March 9.
Dogs were awarded for passing the Standard in Started, Seasoned, and Finished categories. The entrant traveling farthest distance to attend was from the state of New York, with several others participating from the east coast states.
HRCH Blackjack’s Aces and Deuces Wild, a 2-1/2 year old Labrador retriever owned and trained by Fullerton was awarded a Finished title following the two day event.
According to Fullerton “Deuce received the Championship title following much training and an excellent season of retrieving ducks in a local Gueydan marsh”.
