Most famous Pony in Abbeville was auctioned off for more than $5,000; Erath man purchased it
The Ognibene family purchased the carnival horse called "Pony" that road thousands of children for only $500 in 1968. The children road the horse at Frank's Drive Inn in Abbeville for 28 years. Saturday night, at a live auction at Rotary's "St. Pat's For a Cause" "Pony" was auctioned off for an amazing amount. Lets just say it was more than $5,000.
"Boo" Landry from Erath and Mason Romero from Abbeville got into a small bidding war for Pony. Landry did not have a limit. Romero said he had a limit. Watching in disbelief was the Ognibene family who went to the event just to see who purchased their Pony.
The Ognibenes donated the horse to the Rotary for its fundraiser. Pony retired in 1996 and spent the last few years in storage. In 28 years, Pony had been ridden 99,975 times.
The money raised at the event will go towards building something for recreation in Abbeville.
