VC Eagles win fifth straight
The Vermilion Catholic Eagles bumped their record up to 7-2 on the season by winning their fifth straight game.
The Eagles beat the Kaplan Pirates by the final score of 11-6 on Wednesday night.
The Eagles found themselves tied, 2-2 with the Pirates entering the top of the fourth inning.
In the fourth, the Eagles would score two runs to take a 4-2 lead.
The Eagles would use the momentum to carry them through the rest of the game by scoring two more runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings, and closing the game out for good by scoring three runs in the top of seventh.
The Eagles were led by the solid pitching performance of Jacob Sagrera.
Sagrera pitched five and two thirds innings, and over the course of his time he only allowed three hits and one earned run, along with striking out seven.
Tyler Derouen led the way for the Eagles bats.
Derouen was 4-4 on the night with three singles and a double. He also accounted for five of the Eagles 11 runs by having two RBIs and three runs scored.
Derouen also managed to steal three bases and pitch a perfect seventh inning.
The Eagles return to the field this weekend as part of the Teurlings Tournament.
