Solid pitching leads NV past Kaplan
LEROY- The North Vermilion Lady Patriots squared off against district rival the Kaplan Lady Pirates on Tuesday afternoon, and the Lady Patriots were able to walk away with the 4-1 victory.
“It feels great,” Lady Patriots Head Coach Richard Prejean said. “It’s not the be all, end all to district but it is a great start. We got a little behind because of the weather, and I kind of thought we might come out a little sluggish. We didn’t and ended up
getting a good win.”
The game came down to the second and third innings.
In the bottom of the second inning the Lady Patriots struck first with an RBI bunt single by Kyla Hebert.
The Lady Pirates would answer right back in the top of the third inning with a Lindsey Schexnailder sac fly to center.
The Lady Patriots answered the bell in the bottom of the third inning with a Morgan Harrington home run to left field.
That would be the eventual game winning run for the Lady Patriots.
NV would go on to score a couple on insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings to win by the score of 4-1.
“This was an important win for us,” Prejean said. “When you have three of the best softball teams in your district, you have to get all the wins you can get.”
Hannah Vidallier pitched a solid seven innings for the Lady Patritos. She allowed only one run on seven hits, and she also struck out three Lady Pirates.
The Lady Patriots will be back in action this weekend as they travel to take part in the Parkview Baptist Tournament starting today.
