Kaplan Pirates season starts off a little rocky
The Kaplan Pirates seasons hasn’t started quite the way they would have hoped.
The Pirates have lost their first three games of the season, but in two of those games they lost by a total of three runs.
“Your wins and losses are very important,” Kaplan Pirates Head Coach Sam Taulli said. “The first game of the season is just as important as the last game of the season.”
The Pirates have had the little problem of practice time as a full team.
They would have some kids missing due to other sports, and the weather has not been kind to Kaplan, or any team in the parish for that matter.
“We are just trying to get all of our pieces together,” Taulli said. “It’s the beginning of the season and we are just trying to get everyone where they need to be. During our tournament schedule we are just hoping to get a few
wins here and there to gain some momentum.
“The way the playoffs are set up now, every point we can get throughout the season is very important.”
The Pirates have also been working hard on preparing for the Kaplan Tournament that they are hosting this weekend.
Due to the weather the tournament has been moved back to start today and not yesterday.
According to Taulli there is a lot that goes into preparing for a tournament like this one.
“First off we need prayers that the weather is not bad,” Taulli said. “After that it is all about getting everything ready. We have to make sure the field is prepared for a three day tournament. Then we have to focus on the
concession stand and make sure all that is squared away.
“On top of those things we are have a fish fry fundraiser on Saturday from 11-2. This is my first year and I am learning as I go, but I do want to thank everyone in the community for all of the help and support they have
given.”
