Abbeville native ranked at a young age
Kalix Broussard at 12 years has already done something that most guys only dream of.
He has been ranked inside the top 100 football players across the country, according to Offense-Defense Football camps.
Broussard, a student at Mt. Carmel, was ranked as the 58th best player, out of thousands, from all over America.
“It’s amazing,” Broussard said. “I never thought that I would get here. When I got the news I was just really surprised.”
The list of athletes is compiled from those that attend the Offense-Defense camps that are held all around the country.
While attending some of those camps over the past year, Kalix caught the eye of the people in charge of rankings.
“I knew he did well when he was at the camps,” Kalix’s father Bubba Broussard said. “It’s hard for me to judge just how well he is doing because I’m his dad. I think everything he does is good, but for him to be ranked
inside the top 100 is awesome. I’m pretty pumped, 58 out of thousands is pretty cool.”
Kalix started playing football at an early age, and the passion for the game has been with him since he started at four years old.
“I have always had a passion for football,” Kalix said. “I just love the opportunity to go out and play and get better.”
When Kalix first started playing football it was just his way of trying to keep up with his older brother.
“Kalix had an older brother that played football, and Kalix was always trying to play with the big boys,” Bubba Broussard said. “I think playing with kids twice his age has toughened him up. Even now he is usually the
smallest kid out there, but his coaches keep putting him at middle linebacker because he is the toughest kid out there.”
Kalix attributes a lot of his success to his parents.
“They have just been very supportive of me playing football,” Kalix said. “Along with their support they are always there to help me get better. They help by taking me to practice and helping me with my workouts. I couldn’t
have done any of this without my parents helping me out.”
Kalix still has a lot more work in front of him in the form of several other camps.
He has lined up camps including more Offense-Defense camps, and the prestigious Football University.
You can only be invited to participate in the Football University camps.
So, Kalix will continue to work as hard as he can to reach his ultimate goal of the NFL.
