Erath hosts Lady Cat Classic

The Erath Lady Bobcats softball team is hosting the first ever Acadiana Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Lady Cat Classic, starting tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at the Quality Sports Authority fields in Erath.

“We are really happy to be hosting this tournament,” Lady Bobcats Head Coach Lance Beal said. “It lets the girls know that the community has the softball team in mind. It is going to take a lot of hard work from the community and the Erath administration.”

Coach Beal also went on to talk about the great competition that is taking part in the tournament.

“There are a lot of really good teams that are coming to compete in our tournament,” Beal said.

Among the competitors participating in the Lady Cat Classic are: Erath, Delcambre, Acadiana, Welsh, Eunice, Vinton, Beau Chene, Lafayette Christian Academy and Carencro.

The tournament gets started on Friday at 3:30 p.m. when Acadiana takes on Welsh.

The Lady Bobcats will enter their own tournament with a 2-3 record.

Coach Beal feels that his young team, comprised of mostly sophomore and freshmen, are starting to play together as a team.

“We had a good win over Delcambre,” Beal said. “We also played in a tough Kaplan tournament, and even though we came up short as far as wins are concerned, I felt we played well. I felt we grew as a team, and that is
what is most important right now.

“We made a lot of progress for a young team, and as long as we continue to do that we should be where we want to be at the end of the year.”

Along with Erath, the Delcambre Lady Panthers are the only other local team that is taking part in the Lady Cat Classic.

The Lady Panthers enter this tournament on a four game winning streak, and 4-1 record.

“We have been playing some really good defense so far this year,” Lady Panthers Head Coach Chad Hayes said. “As far as the tournament this weekend is concerned, the girls are excited. We have some tough
competition, but the girls are ready to get back on the field and work towards the goals we have set.”

Over the course of Friday and Saturday, the Lady Panthers will play four games in two days.

“The girls are up to the challenge,” Hayes said. “They love the game and the competition. Now four games in two days is a lot, but the girls are ready, and it doesn’t hurt that it is at the beginning of the year.”

The Panther Relays begin at 3:30 at the Abbeville track and field complex.
