VC Lady Eagles lose a close game against Arcadia
The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles run at back-to-back state championships ends in the quarterfinals to the Arcadia Lady Hornets by the final score of 62-59.
It was a neck and neck game from the very beginning.
The Lady Eagles trailed by as much as five points in the first half, but VC’s Lexi Langlinais was able to make a put back layup to make the halftime score 29-28 Arcadia.
When the third quarter started the mood in the gym changed, and it went from a high school basketball game to a heavyweight fight, with each team just fighting back and forth.
The Lady Eagles found themselves down by six points halfway through the third, but were able to close the gap to only three point down by the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter rolled around and the Lady Eagles go hot.
The Lady Eagles started the fourth quarter on a 16-7 run and halfway through the fourth found themselves 55-49.
Another minute would go by and the Lady Eagles found themselves only three minutes away from reaching the Top 28, and had a six point lead.
That is when the Lady Hornets would begin to eat away at the lead.
Arcadia would go on an 11-2 run to finish the game.
VC had one last chance.
With eight seconds remaining on the clock the Lady Eagles inbounded the ball to Ashailee Brailey who would loft up a game tying three pointer, and it would come up short, and the Lady Eagles season ended with a 62-59 loss to Arcadia.
Leading the way in scoring for the Lady Eagles was senior Katie Frith.
Frith scored a team and game high 24 points.
Fifteen of her 24 points came from the free throw line.
Ashailee Brailey was the only other Lady Eagle to score in double digits with 13.
Kaylen Collins was able to net eight points of her own.
Lexi Langlinais, Ellen Langlinais and Leah Camel each scored four points apiece.
Kelly White rounded out the scoring for the Lady Eagles with two points in the third quarter.
