Erath beats Delcambre in final innings

The Erath Lady Bobcats played their first softball game of the season against the Lady Panthers of Delcambre, and despite trailing early the Lady Bobcats were able to use a big sixth inning to come back and win 5-4.

“It was a good win for us,” Lady Bobcats Head Coach Lance Beal said. “We have a young team and getting started with a win is a big positive.”

The Lady Panthers got up early on the Lady Bobcats by scoring a run in the bottom of the first.

By the time the game reached the top of the sixth inning the Lady Panthers had a 4-1 lead over the Lady Bobcats.

The sixth inning is where Erath would take advantage of a couple of throwing errors by Delcambre to plate four runs, and take the lead and eventual game winning score of 5-4.

“We played good defense behind our pitcher (Courtney Elliot),” Beal said. “Along with good defense, we pitched well. We had to play small ball to win, but we will do what it takes to win.”

Courtney Elliot got the win for the Lady Bobcats on the mound.

She had a two to one strikes to balls ratio and only allowed four runs.

Leading the way from the plate for the Lady Bobcats was Taylor Hernandez and Maci Viator.

Both Hernandez and Viator each had two hits.

Taylor Trahan led the way for the Lady Panthers, as she went 4-4 from plate, with a run scored.

She also struck out 14 Lady Bobcats and had only given up one run until the top of the sixth inning.
