Abbeville Police launch investigation after woman allegedly robbed at gunpoint

Incident occurred in parking lot of restaurant

Abbeville Police are investigating an alleged armed robbery that occurred Monday night in the parking lot of a local restaurant.
According to Abbeville Police Department Det. Leland Laseter, two male subjects approached a woman standing outside of her vehicle at approximately 9 p.m. One of the subjects is described as a young, black male with a skinny build. The race of the other subject is unknown at this time.
“We arrived on scene and initially spoke to the victim,” Laseter said. “She left the restaurant and put her child in the back seat. She leaned in to start the car while she was waiting for another friend to come out (of the restaurant).
“When she turned around, there was a guy there with a gun in her face who demanded money.”
The victim grabbed her purse from inside the vehicle and threw it on the ground. The black male subject picked up the purse and took off on foot. The subject wore black and white shoes, a dark colored hoodie and a baseball cap. He reportedly used a small, black handgun. The other subject also left the scene on foot.
“We are retrieving and reviewing video from local businesses,” Laseter said. “We do have the suspects on video. Right now we are trying to get everything together to identify them.”
Laseter asked that anyone who has information that may help solve the case to contact the Abbeville Police Department at 893-2511.
