Trial begins for man who allegedly attempted to rape teen in Kaplan library

A 12-person jury was selected late Tuesday for the trial of the alleged attempted rape of a 13-year-old girl in the Kaplan Library.
It starts Wednesday morning at 9.
Arrested and charged with the alleged attempted rape is now 23-year-old Christopher Brown of Opelousas. Brown could face a maximum of 40 years in prison.
The alleged attack happened in 2011 when the girl went into the girls restroom. Kaplan police said the attacker grabbed her from behind and threw her to the ground.
Kaplan Chief of Police Boyd Adams said Ed Poché, an off duty security guard, heard the girl screaming and ran to help her. He detained the suspect until police arrived.
Representing the state is assistant district attorney Laurie Hulin. Linda Veazey is presenting Brown.
Judge Ed Broussard will oversee the trial.
