Cajunettes hosts party for ARC, discuss March’s activities
The Cajunette chapter of the Evangeline Volunteers for Family and Community (EVFC) met Thursday, February 28, at the home of Sarah Webb with Geneva Reed as refreshment hostess. A sewing workshop was held in the morning to sew, paint and stuff “ouched dude” dolls to be given to the parish health units.
After lunch, the monthly meeting was conducted by president Lynn Landreneau. Reports were given on the two activities in February. The raise-a-reader bags for newborns were brought to Savoy Medical Center in February and the club hosted a Valentine’s Day party for ARC students February 14.
Club members assisting with bingo games and refreshments were Mary Soileau, Joyce Coreil, Sarah Webb, Gwen Wolff, JoAnne Eastin, Earleen Boyce, Geneva Reed, Nelda Fontenot, Tina Guillory and Lynn Landreneau.
At the meeting, plans were made for the March activities. The club presented a monetary donation for the St. Joseph’s Altar at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church. Webb made several items to be given to the Boggy Bayou Country Store. On Holy Thursday, the club will host an Easter egg dye party at Heritage Manor.
Local extension agent Tina Guillory invited club members to attend the 4-H Sew with Cotton Style Show February 28. She had ordered the pen and pencil set, which will be given to the Outstanding 4-H boy and girl at the 4-H Awards night May 13. Since this year marks the 100th anniversary of the 4-H Club, all 4-H supporters are invited to attend the event.
The president had been contacted by Area Four Director Sylvia Guillotte, who was making plans for Area 4 Day, set for June 5, in Crowley. The club will make an educational exhibit board and present a demonstration on recycling as part of the environmental program.
The club Exhibit Day will welcome Dr. Carlos Smith as one of the guest speakers. Several suggestions were discussed for the Fun Day in June.
A program titled “Going Green Makes Sense and Saves Cents” was presented by Landreneau. Some tips included not heating or cooling an empty house, using fluorescent light bulbs, using the right amount of home insulation and saving gasoline by driving at a slower speed.
