People are able to find jobs in Vermilion Parish.

Vermilion Parish has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state

Parish ranks sixth out of 64

 

There are 64 parishes in Louisiana, and Vermilion Parish has the sixth lowest unemployment rate out of  all of them.

Louisiana has an a 7.1 unemployment rate average, while the United State’s unemployment rate is 7.3 percent.

Vermilion Parish’s unemployment rate for the month of August, according to the Labor Department, is a low 5.9 percent. A month ago Vermilion’s unemployment was 6.1 percent.

In August, there were 23,248 people from the parish working and 1,468 people not working. 

There were five other parishes in the state  that have a lower unemployment rate than Vermilion.

The parish with the lowest unemployment rate is Lafourche Parish (near Houma) with an amazing 4.8 percent. Next to Lafourche Parish is Terrebonne Parish with the second lowest at 5.1 percent.

Lafayette Parish and LaSalle Parish each have a 5.3 unemployment rate.

Alongside of Vermilion Parish is Cameron Parish was a low unemployment rate of  5.7 percent.

Vermilion and Lafayette parishes are the only parishes in Acadiana that have an unemployment rate below 6 percent.

Acadia Parish’s rate is 6.5 percent, while St. Martin’s is 6.2 percent.

Iberia Parish is 6.4 percent and Jeff Davis is 6.0 percent.

Nationally, the Labor Department says the unemployment rate fell to 7.2 percent, from 7.3 percent in August and a five-year low. The economy has added an average of 143,000 jobs a month from July through September, down from 182,000 from April through June.
