Erath's Elijah Mitchell is going to be a Ragin Cajun

He commits on Sunday

ERATH - Erath’s Elijah Mitchell decided to play football close to home.
On Sunday, he posted on Instagram that he committed to the UL Ragin’ Cajun football team.
Mitchell was being recruited by many state universities, along with Colorado State and Army.
He had college coaches texting him and recruiting letters arriving at his house daily.
Deep down inside, Mitchell knew he was going to be a Ragin’ Cajun from the beginning.
“I grew up watching the Cajuns,” said Mitchell Monday morning. “When I went, they made me feel I was at home. Everyone kept telling me they wanted to come watch me play.”
Now they will.
Mitchell said he committed early to the Cajuns because he wanted to concentrate on the upcoming season. Despite committing, he still has official visits to universities he can make this season.
Erath Head Football Coach David Comeaux still wants him to make those of visits because it is an experience he will never forget.
Comeaux expects Mitchell to excel with the Cajuns.
“UL recruited him as a running back and he will do well there,” said Comeaux. “They are talking about Elijah taking over (Elijah) McGuire’s place when he leaves. They want him to step in and I think he will.”
By the time Mitchell leaves Erath, he will own almost every rushing and scoring record in the school’s history.
After three seasons, Mitchell has rushed for 3,849 yards and 47 touchdowns. He could become one of the first rushing backs in Vermilion Parish to rush for four consecutive 1,000 yard seasons.
