Around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the Abbeville Police Department was called to an apartment complex at the corner of Oak Street and North State Street, because a male body was found sitting in the driver’s seat of his truck.

A neighbor walking by the white Dodge truck noticed its owner, Hank Eleazar, sitting in the driver’s seat with his head leaning against the driver’s window. The neighbor said he opened the door and yelled at Eleazar to wake up.  He got no response. He called 911.

Eleazar, in his mid- 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the police department began an investigation. Neighbors who were on the scene said they saw Hank the day before. They said on Tuesday, however,  something did look suspicious by the way his white Dodge was parked in front of his apartment.

Abbeville head detective  David Hardy said they received the coroner’s report Wednesday afternoon that showed his death was ruled a suicide.

Hardy said it was CO2 poisoning, closing the investigation into how he died.
