Vermilion Tourist Commission wins ‘Outstanding’ award

The Vermilion Parish Tourist Commission has been named one of the most Outstanding Tourist Commission in 2014 at the LOUEY Awards Luncheon held Wednesday, January 28, at Cypress Bend Resort in Many, LA.
The Commission was recognized as a strong supporter of the Cajun culture, striving to keep our culture alive through food, music, traditions and customs, French heritage and French language.
Also awarded, were their efforts to promote Cajun culture and market 31 parish festivals and events to a wider audience. Thier hard work has resulted in a visitation increase of 45 percent from 2013 to 2014.
The Vermilion Parish Tourism Commission also incorporated search engine marketing, a new mobile website, digital ads and other online marketing tools have helped this organization achieve a 53 percent increase in website visitation.
The LOUEY Awards are awarded each year to tourism organizations and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to the Louisiana tourism industry and created innovative, results-producing marketing strategies or programs that attract visitors to our state. This award is so significant because it is one of the few in the state that recognizes the efforts and accomplishments of Louisiana’s tourism industry. This year, over 40 tourism entities were nominated for the awards.
This is the second time the Outstanding CVB of the Year was awarded to Vermilion Parish Tourist Commission for their efforts to increase visitation to the area and build local partnerships. The first time was in 2009.
This tourism award caught Executive Director, Alison Miller, off guard.
“I was very surprised to hear our name called. This award validates all the hard work and efforts we have put into promoting Vermilion Parish. I feel very honored to be recognized as one of the top three tourism bureaus in the state.” The Vermilion Parish Tourist Commission operates on roughly $70,000 a year. About a third of the state’s tourism bureaus fall into the small budget category.”
