Vermilion Sheriff's Office, Abbeville police team up to search for gun involved in killing

Members of the Abbeville Police Department and the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office spent Friday afternoon searching for a weapon that was used in the shooting death of Paul Plowden last week.
Plowden was shot and killed in his driveway located on Fairview Street in Abbeville.
Abbeville detectives Leland Laseter and Ryan Boutte, along with detective Sammy Laporte of the Sheriff’s Office, teamed up to drag the canal on Fairview Street.
LeLand and LaPorte were on opposite sides of the canal and were pulling a 18-inch wide magnet on the bottom of the canal. Each time the magnet reached the other side, they would pick it up to see if there was a gun stuck to it.
Also, Abbeville detective Ryan Boutte walked through parts of the canal with a metal detector in search of a gun.
Late Friday, no weapon had been found.
The city police would like to thank the Sheriff’s Office for its help and the Sportsman for letting them use a small boat for the search.
