Vermilion Sheriff’s Office makes arrest in connection to two bodies found in burned vehicle near Maurice in 2014

Dereck Viator arrested for two counts of 1st-degree murder

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, an arrest has been made in connection with the deaths of Cody Fell and Abigail Clark who were found deceased inside a burned SUV on Claude Road in Vermilion Parish on April 16, 2014.
Sheriff Couvillon says that an arrest warrant for two counts of 1st-Degree Murder was obtained on Dereck Viator based on probable cause and was executed on May 12, 2016 with no bond.
Couvillon said this has been a very active investigation since the onset as detectives continue to develop information and gather evidence in an effort to seek justice for the victims and their families.
Viator was living in the Youngsville area at the time of the homicides, but has been incarcerated in the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center since July of 2014 on other charges.
Additional arrests will be forthcoming and additional information will be provided as this investigation moves forward.
