Vermilion Parish School board adopts new insurance plan

Vermilion Parish School Board employees now have new health insurance options to select from.
At Thursday’s meeting, the school board adopted three different health insurance plans with Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Over the next month, insurance representatives will be having meetings to educate the school board employees on what insurance plans are available and how much each plan cost.
James Mallia of Dwight Andrus Insurance gave a presentation to the school board members on the new rates and when the new insurance will go into effect.
School employees will be switched over to Blue Cross Blue Shied in May, but school employees will not be paying the new higher premiums until June 1, Mallia said.
Also, Mallia informed everyone that if school board employees have already reached their deductible for the 2016 calender year, Blue Cross Bule Shield will honor it after they switch over.
The school board was given four plans and they had to decide on three options.
Board member Chris Gautreaux suggested having a plan with a $4,000 deductible, along with having co-payments for doctor visits.
Dwight Andrus Insurance, the school board’s new consultant company, provided quotes of how much it would cost a family and individual for health insurance with a $4,000 deductible.
The difference was $38 cheaper for an single and $111 cheaper for a family.
School board members voted down the new plan with a $4,000 deductible and cheaper premiums.
When it came to voting for the three new plans, Gautreaux and Anthony Fontana voted against it.
School board members voting for it were Laura LeBeouf, Stacy Landry, Sara Duplechain, Luddy Herpin and Earnest Pillette. Ricky Broussard did not attend the meeting.

Here are the three new insurance plans adopted by the school board.

The Standard Plan

The Standard Plan comes with a new $2,000 deductible; 70/30 and a $40 co-pay for a doctor visit

Premiums
Employee only - $270 per month
Employee and spouse - $566 per month
Family - $781 per month

H S A Plan ($3,300 deductible, 70/30 co-insurance and no co-pay for doctor’s visit)

Employee Only - $100 per month
Employee plus spouse - $481 per month
Family - $664 per month

Buy-Up Plan ($1,000 deductible, 80-20 co-insurance, $40 co-pay for doctor’s visit. )

Employee only - $344 per month
Employee plus spouse - $722 per month
Family - $996 per month
