Vermilion Parish Narcotics Unit arrests three, searching for another one
The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit made the following arrests for narcotics related offenses within the parish and is still looking for another who fled police after a high-speed chase.
•• Magon Derouen (Date of birth 8-30-83) of Abbeville, arrested for possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of methadone, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile.
•• Jamie Faulk (Date of birth 2-8-75) of Kaplan, arrested for possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
•• Tawaski O’Brien (dob 11-27-78) no known address, arrested for possession of a legend drug without a prescription, principal to possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, principal to possession of a schedule II narcotic.
O’Brien was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Robert Howze (B/M, DOB: 8-31-1983) of Kaplan. Upon officers attempting to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation, Howze began driving in a violent manner to elude the agents. Howze crashed the vehicle a short time later on Cheneau Road, with both O’Brien and Howze fleeing from the vehicle into cane fields.
O’Brien was located with the use of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit. Upon locating O’Brien it was noticed he dug a hole and covered himself in mud. Howze was not located but is being actively sought at this time by the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics division.
Sheriff Couvillon would like to thank Lt. Jason Hebert and SPO Josh Hebert with the Abbeville City Police department, along with Kaplan Chief Boyd Adams, and Officer Megan Abshire with the Kaplan Police department for their assistance in this matter. Their efforts on this case not only kept citizens safe, but aided in the apprehension of one of the suspects.
