Vermilion Parish elderly couple almost falls for scam
A Vermilion Parish elderly couple was almost out of $900 had they fallen for a scam.
According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, last week an elderly couple reported a possible scam involving a check which was received in the mail. The elderly couple stated they had an advertisement placed on Craig’s list for a sofa that they had for sale for $300.00. They also advised they received a telephone call from a foreigner stating he was interested in the sofa.
Sheriff Couvillon says that the couple later received a check in the mail from Western Federal Credit Union P.O. Box 10018 Manhattan Beach, Ca. 902677518, paid to the order of the elderly couple for the amount of $1,820.00. The return address on the envelope was from Topeka, Kansas and the foreigner asked them to send $900.00 to a doctor because his father was ill.
Sheriff Couvillon says that Detectives have made contact with Western Federal Credit Union Security and have confirmed that this is a scam.
