Vermilion Parish Courthouse getting a $1.3 million facelift

The Vermilion Parish Court House is getting a $1.3 million needed facelift.
Compliments of FEMA, the courthouse is getting a new roof, doors, new shutters and 96 brand new windows.
Contractors have been changing the roof over the last month. The next phase of the project will be the removing of 96 windows and replacing them with custom made, hurricane proof windows. They are also changing all the green shutters and replacing them with new painted shutters.
Architect Gene Sellers Jr. asked the police jury recently if the contractors can have an extension of the entire project because of the weather. The extension was granted until August.
Last month the first custom-made window replaced a window on the bottom floor. The windows are being made in Oregon.
The windows are built to handle more than 120 mile per hour winds which is the strongest windows made.
According to Sellers, the windows at the courthouse have not been changed since the construction of the courthouse in the 1950s. Many of them have air leaks and the wood is rotting around the glass.
Sellers said the new windows will save money on the courthouse utility bills.
