Vermilion Parish 4-H Show Results

The 2015 Vermilion Parish 4-H Livestock Show and Sale was the largest on record for our program.
It involved 212 young people who exhibited over 300 head of livestock (beef, sheep, goats, dairy, and swine) and 88 poultry entries.
This was the 41st year for this event which is organized by the LSU AgCenter Extension Service.
It was at the Cecil McCrory Exhibit Building in Abbeville.
Larger than normal crowds were on hand to witness the skills of these 4-H’ers and to view the extensive exhibition of the highest quality stock in Vermilion Parish, including cattle, hogs, sheep, goats and poultry.
• The sale of market animals set records for the six year in a row totaling $260,878.00, of which $5,400.00 was raised for the Vermilion 4-H Foundation. A total of 115 market hogs sold with an average of $7.19 per pound, 18 market lambs sold with an average of $13.70 per pound, 6 commercial heifers sold with an average of $2,875.00 per head, and 3 steers sold with an average of $4.25 per pound.
• The Overall Grand Champion Market Hog and Overall Vermilion Bred Champion Market Hog was exhibited by Logan Goutierrez of Erath High 4-H Club. The Overall Reserve Champion Market Hog and Overall Reserve Champion Vermilion Bred Market Hog was exhibited by Sidney Dartez, of Kaplan High 4-H Club, and purchased by Nick Domingue for $6.50 per pound.
• The Overall Grand Champion Market Lamb was exhibited by Logan Goutierrez, of Erath High 4-H Club, which sold to Gabe Marceaux and Sno Dartez for $23.00 per pound.
• The award for Overall Champion Lamb was sponsored in memory of J. G. (Ken Broussard). Reilly Boliing, of Erath High 4-H Club, showed the Overall Reserve Champion Market Lamb and sold for $31.00 per pound and was purchased by Nathan Granger, Quality Construction and Production.
• The Overall Champion Vermilion Bred and the Overall Reserve Champion Vermilion Bred Market Lambs were both shown by Sydney Zaunbrecher of Gueydan High 4-H Club. The Reserve Champion awards were sponsored in memory of Fred Zaunbrecher by Hugh and Sherry Zaunbrecher.
• The Grand Champion Steer was shown by Brandon Albert of Vermilion Catholic 4-H Club and sold for $5.00 per pound. It was purchased by Quality Equipment, M. A. Patout Sugar, Stacey Albert Farms, LLC, Ernest and Jackie Albert, and Circle A Farm, Inc. (Tim and Dawn Albert).
The Reserve Champion Steer was shown by Julia Albert of Mt. Carmel Elementary 4-H Club. It sold for $3.00 per pound and was purchased by Wilson and Sandy Viator, Dwayne Viator Farms, LLC, Green Point Ag, Canal Petroleum, Ernest and Jackie Albert, and Circle A Farm, Inc).
The awards for Grand and Reserve Champion Steer were sponsored by the Vermilion 4-H Foundation.

The Overall Reserve Champion and Champion Vermilion Bred Breeding Swine were shown by Katie Kirsch of Seventh Ward Elementary. The Reserve Champion Breeding Gilt award was sponsored by Maurice Veterinary Clinic.

DAIRY SHOWMANSHIP:
The 1st and Overall Champion Dairy Showman was Fallon Stelly of Kaplan High School; 2nd place was Adrian Carlin of F.I.-E. B. Elementary; and 3rd place was Clay Choate of J. H. Williams Middle School.

Awards for the 13 and Under Poultry showmanship were donated by the Vermilion 4-H Foundation. Results were: 1st, Joel Allen, Erath Middle School; 2nd, Caleb Arnould, North Vermilion Middle School; 3rd, Colton Punch, Erath Middle School; 4th, Daniel Lange, Erath Middle School; and 5th, Adrian Carlin, F.I.-E.B. Elementary School.
Kendall Allen and Traco/Quality Companies sponsored the awards for the Poultry Show. Winning Best of Show was Collin Arnould of Picard Elementary School. Joel Allen won Reserve Best of Show.
