Vermilion Career Welding Classes get $3,600 worth of welding donations

The Vermilion Career Campus Welding classes recently received $3,600 worth of donations from two companies outside of Vermilion Parish.
At the recent School Board meeting, TNT Gas and Supply and National Welding Supply Inc., both from New Iberia, were recognized by the school board members for their recent donation.
The school board voted to have Superintendent Jerome Puyau send the two companies a letter of appreciation.
TNT donated welding rods and wire valued at $2,500.
National Welding Supply also donated $1,000 worth of wire and welding rods.
The welding classes are offered at Abbeville High School for those students who want to learn the welding skill.
This is the third donation the welding school receives in the last three months. In December, Acadian Contractors out of Abbeville donated pipes for the students to practice welding on.
Lonnie Richard, who is the supervisor of Career Tech Education, said the donations help the school board and the welding students.
Richard said by not having to spend $3,600 on rods and wire, he can now use the money on computer software and buying other things for the welding class.
The classes at the school are through the Gulf Area Campus of the Acadiana Technical College.
Students learn heli-arc welding, flux cored arc welding, shielded metal arc welding (stick welding plate and pipe), short arc welding and aluminum welding.
Here is another donation received by another school.
• $500 donation from EnviroResources to Erath Middle School. The money will go towards the Jr. Beta organization to benefit the Jr. Beta’s Philanthropy’s “Feeding America Program.”
