VC’s Baudoin recognized by Kiwanis Club as group’s Student of the Month
Part of being a politician is giving speeches.
Vermilion Catholic senior Drew Baudoin would like to go into politics and Tuesday afternoon provided him an audience to give a speech about himself.
The Abbeville Kiwanis Club named Baudoin its Student of the Month. He spoke to the group Tuesday during its weekly meeting.
“I want to first and foremost thank God for me receiving this great award today,” Baudoin said. “I want to thank the Kiwanis Club and the faculty and staff of Vermilion Catholic for choosing me to represent this great organization as Student of the Month.”
Baudoin, the son of Tim and Trina, will receive a sign to place in his front yard, as well as a gift card to Sonic of Abbeville.
Baudoin is a member of the VC student council and was the president of his junior class. He also served as part of the school’s drum line.
“I have also had the pleasure of attending (Vermilion) Parish Government Day,” Baudoin said.
He will once again represent VC this Thursday and Friday at the annual Government Day, where students from around the Parish take part in running for various local public offices.
After leaving VC, Baudoin will attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He plans to major in business, with a minor in either pre-law or political science.
“I want to have one of those minors just in case I decide to go to law school,” Baudoin said.
He will have a career, with career politician not being a goal, but he hopes to have politics as part of his future.
“I like helping people and being involved in the community,” Baudoin said.
His journey into the political realm may very well begin at the local level.
“I would like to maybe serve on city council,” he said. “I would like to work my way up to something like the (Louisiana) public service commission.”
Goals can always be lofty, but Baudoin hasn’t set any for a high public office.
“The highest I would ever want to go is Congress,” Baudoin said.
Again, any position will be in the name of helping people. Baudoin is currently doing so as a member of the Knights of Columbus, a group he joined after turning 18 years old last August.
“I enjoy doing volunteer work through that group,” Baudoin said. “I became a 3rd-degree Knight, so I am pretty proud about that.”
Baudoin’s parents are undoubtedly proud of their son. He said anything he has accomplished comes from one thing.
“It’s a reflection of them,” Baudoin said. “They are my biggest supporters. I want to thank them so much for their sacrifices to provide me with a Catholic education.
“I can never repay them for what they have done for me for the person I have become and continue to strive to be.”
