Two Vehicle Crash Leaves a Crowley Teenager Dead and Another in Critical Condition

Acadia Parish – Shortly before 4:00 pm on Friday, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash that occurred on LA Hwy 92 at Muskrat Road in Acadia Parish. The crash took the life of 13 year old Halle Thompson of Crowley and left a female juvenile driver in critical condition.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as a juvenile female driver of Crowley was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry southbound on Muskrat Road. The juvenile stopped for a stop sign on Muskrat Road at its intersection with LA Highway 92. The juvenile proceeded to enter onto LA Highway 92, and was struck on the driver’s side door, by a 2005 Dodge Ram traveling westbound LA Highway 92. The Dodge Ram was being driven by 39 year old Chad Breaux of Morse.
The juvenile driver was not wearing a seat belt and sustained critical injuries as a result of the crash. The juvenile was transported from the scene to a local hospital. The passenger of the Camry, Halle Thompson was wearing a seat belt, but died as a result of her injuries. The Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office arrived on scene and pronounced Thompson dead. Chad Breaux was wearing a seat belt and only suffered minor injuries.

Impairment is not suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash. Breaux voluntarily submitted to a chemical breath test and Troopers determined he was not impaired.

This crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending.
Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death for teens age sixteen –twenty. Each year more than 5,000 teens lose their lives in preventable crashes. Most common teen errors are lack of scanning, driving too fast for road conditions and distractions inside of the vehicle. Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving at all times. Troopers want to remind everyone to always wear their seat belt and always remain buckled up regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices and passengers. Both can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. Always obey all traffic control devices and be aware of your surroundings at all times.
