Issac Romero may have caught the fifth largest marbled grouper in Louisiana during the Fishing for Memories Rodeo this past weekend.
He reeled in a 17.25 pound fish, which would make it the fifth heaviest marbled grouper.
The state record is 30 pounds.
Romero has to feel out documents and it has to be certified by the Wildlife and Fisheries before it is recognized as a top five fish.
Groupers are members of the family Serranidae, the sea basses and can be found in deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
They can also be found in the Caribbean known as a “donkey fish.”
