Tim Guidry

Tim Guidry loses battle with cancer

After a five-year battle with cancer, Tim Guidry lost his battle Thursday morning.

He died at his residence.

Guidry, 56, is the twin brother of VC girl’s basketball coach Kim Guidry.

He is also survived by his parents,  Jay and Annie Guidry.

The funeral service will be held  Saturday at noon at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Friday, March 27, 2015 from 12 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church.

A rosary, led by the Lady Eagle girls basketball team, will be said tonight at 7 o’clock.

When Guidry was not on the sideline keeping the score book for his sister or running the clock, he was  the current Director of Acadiana Fairgrounds of New Iberia.

While basketball was his love, horses were his passion.

He has held many American Quarter Horse Association and American Paint Horse Association titles and won many awards.  He served as a member of the American Paint Horse Association, and in fact the youngest National Director of the American Paint Horse Association ever elected.  He was also a member of the Louisiana Quarter Horse Association and served as Louisiana Quarter Horse Association director.  He won American Paint Horse World Championships in 1978.

Two years ago the Abbeville Meridional wrote a story before the 2013-2014 basketball season. The Lady Eagles dedicated that upcoming season to Tim.

Kim Guidry said this about her brother in the story.

“Three years ago, they gave him three years to live,” said Kim Guidry. “But you don’t have an expiration date stamped on the bottom of your foot. The last I heard, God takes you when he’s ready.”

God was ready for him Thursday morning.
